BAU EKJU works exclusively with sustainably sourced spruce (Picea abies) and pine (pinus sylvestris) from North European forests of Baltics, Finland and Sweden.
The slower growth of Nordic forests results in very high-quality wood material with more dense annual growth rings and straight and strong structures.
For even higher demands towards wood durability without the use of chemicals, and esthetic appearance, Thermo-D modified spruce and pine are used. BAU EKJU uses only the International Thermo Wood Association (Finland) certified thermo-treated wood with the ThermoWood trademark.
In the word Thermo-D, the “D” stands for Durability.ThermoWood is produced by using only natural methods, heat and steam. Thermal modification improves the wood’s technical properties and ThermoWood is non-toxic, dimensionally stable, resistant to decay and resin-free. It can be used both indoors and outdoors and is suitable for any climate.
The most important ThermoWood® advantages are
-Dimensional stability
-Reduced equilibrium moisture content
-Improved durability against decay without the use of chemicals
-Reduced thermal conductivity
-Removed resin
-Consistent colour through the wood
-Non-toxic material
BAU EKJU team with their families regularly participate in wood replanting to secure positive Nordic forest area growth. It is not only the most sustainable raw material for the next generations, the wood we plant is the greatest CO2 capturer and air cleaner.
With our support of responsible forest management, we are certified by Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC ®). Certificate registration Code: NC-COC-013354. FSC License Code: FSC-C002739, which can be shown on invoices, if required.
